following the week's theme

I'm a non-starter for this morning's swim. All night I was tossing and turning and willing myself to sleep soundly and wake up refreshed and 100% healthy. Of course that never works and at around 6am when I had my first coughing fit I decided that the swim would be silly and that I didn't need to prove anything.

I did decide to try a run with Lorna and Lulu and I last for 3.5k and 25 mins before admitting defeat (again) and walking back to the car. Its very disheartening and I really am trying very hard not to give myself too much of a hard time for (a) not doing the swim, (b) not running very far or fast, (c) both of the above. I am also trying not to catastrophise into having lost all my fitness and there being no chance of doing an olympic distance triathlon. Trying. Mildly successful.

Combined with just feeling a bit anxious over all that and some family stuff that is really upsetting me I am feeling pretty edgy. Fortunately the lovely lulu and mr lulu have invited me to dinner which is always a sure fire cheer-er-upper-er :)

thanks everyone for your good luck wishes for the swim and lulu/lorna/wtr for their intention to come and watch. sorry it was such a non event, maybe next year...

Well done making another wise/adult decision :-)

You will be fine for the Olympic next month. Don't push too hard in your training this week so that you recover fully/properly from your cold so you'll be back to 100% asap. Doing too much now will more damage than good :-)

Good decision seeing you're not well. Hitting the wall in an ocean swim wouldn't be pretty.

You're right - getting the critical sessions done should get you there. Triathletes can easily overdo things.

Ellie, you absolutely did the right thing. Sometimes not training is a tougher call than training and you were smart enough to make that call today.
Its inevitable that you will have some sort of setback in training for a big event. Be glad that you have got yours out of the way early.
My advice is to REST until you feel better, even if that takes another 3 or 4 days, and then get back into it.
It was a perfect conditions today, absolutely gorgeous. As I am sure it will be again next time you decide to do an ocean swim. :)

Yeah you did look a bit fluey this morning in the park. You did the right thing keeping the run to a minimum. You'll be fine in a few days and the past week will be a mere blip on the screen. :)

Methinks our E. is about to learn a very important lesson - viz. the body is a lot more adaptable than we give it credit for. Don't fuss the litle stuff, and keep resting until you are WELL (not just starting-to-get-well :-) )

Bad luck with the swim Ellie. Just train for the tri next month and get that done instead.

What everybody else said ... :)

How about just doing a little walking instead of running & swimming while you recuperate. It might make you feel like you are at least doing something.

I can't add much, but definitely do not catastrophise-you will be ready for the Olympic distance (but not if you don't recover)

Feel better soon!

Go back through your blog. See how far you have come. You have nothing to apologise about.

So how are you feeling today? Shame you couldn't have gotten out there to give Libby Lenton some competition, but I hear she was much relieved not to see you there :)

Hope you're better for the rest of the week

I can understand that you were disappointed, Ellie, but you did the right thing - there's always 'another day'!

Hope you're much improved now.
