a week off
after a night tossing and turning and waking up feeling better but still a bit shit i have decided to take the rest of the week off. i thought i'd just see how i went but then i got on the bus and had to stand up and my heart rate was right up and i was so grateful when someone got off and i got to sit down.
that isn't normal for me! so the week it is. this will be my first protracted break since i started running in feb and i feel a bit icky about it. the worry is that really i am just being pathetic and i should toughen up, or that i will lose all my fitness and put on 10kg and lose all my motivation for everything and never run again.
i'm going to go to the doctor - because i have seriously never felt like this before (hehe that sounds like a line out of a love song... if only!) and take it easy and eat lots of vegies. lots of sleep too would be in order i think.
so there you have it - hope i'm not just being a drama queen :)

Hey Ellie, I think having a break off running is a really smart idea. After doing some big races this year I started getting similar symptoms like raised HR for no reason. A trainer recommended to me that I was showing signs of overtraining. I had 3 weeks off and come back extremely fresh. I think most people find it hard to run continuously all year round.
Hope to see you back at training next week.
In my experience, you will be jumping out of your skin to run by the weekend. ;)
Bouncing off the walls.
Look after yourself.
Good decision - and if you do lose motivation we will all harrass you via the blog to get going again ;-)
Sounds pretty damn sensible to me. drink lots of water too (your mum told me to tell you that)
You'll feel blobbish and guilty in a day or two - but don't worry, you won't be losing fitness in a week or two. That's what tapers are all about - in fact, maybe that's the best way to look at it. Pretend there's a big event coming up next Monday (it can be "Week 44 Monday" day) and you're just tapering the body in preparation for it ...
Gee, you not running. It must be bad. And needing a seat on the bus, that's a bit scary.
Let us know what the good doc says.
See earlier email to Jen on criteria for drama queen. You too have a long way to go before you can claim that crown. A VERY long way.
Listen to your body. It's telling you something..."Ellie...Ellie...I need a rest...take a rest"
As Simlin says you'll be bounding out the door next week and all the better for the break.
I agree with the others and your decision to take the time to rest.
I highly doubt that you will lose motivation, but if you do reading other blogs has me wanting to get out there in no time. However it is probably not the best idea to read mine though ;-)
Take care and let us all know how the Doc appt goes
Stop being so bloody soft!!!
Actually, I think the break is a good idea - I just wanted to say something different. Training is only of benefit when the body can absorb it - otherwise it's just stress with sweat...
How on earth can you lose your mojo when there is the prospect of running with Lulu and Owly and me - not to mention the breakfast that always follows ;-D
Best wishes for the rest and recovery.
Going from just running to all 3 tri workouts is probably pushing you all the way.
What else can i add to all that good advice?
Nice to see you on W/E....What happened in the second half of the race? You were looking really good?Hope it wasn't the beginning of this lurgy?
Cheers R2B
I'm all for a week off every now and then - don't forget to get a massage too.
I don't think you are being dramatic. It sounds like your body needs to get itself right.
Hope you're feeling better soon. That poor bike is feeling neglected.
