rainy day friends

went to training this morning (one point), it was raining and i still went (two points). i was very glad i did because my lovely friend Mel decided to come along, and i am hoping that she will become a regular attendee because she is so nice (and is a great target for me to aspire to!!).

when i got up, as part of my eating before running thing i tried a bit of the vanilla sustagen that ali gave me which was not the best - so i'll be sticking to chocolate. so instead i had about 250ml of powerade. in retrospect, possibly not the best combo.

ran in, did a couple of laps plus the strides and drills for 3.25k warm up. i felt a bit light headed and weird in parts of it and sort of clammy - so i stopped during two of the accelerations and had a drink.

then the guts of the session - 5 x 1k fartlek loops. the splits tell the story:
4.49 (holy crap)
5.09
5.51 - yes - after lap two i had to stop because i was feeling terrible again. not sick but clammy and awful - like my heartrate was too high
5.26 (starting to feel better)
5.28 (obviously this was the pace i should have been going to start with!!!)

anyway - the same lesson learned again (and Horrie even told me right at the start!! i've never liked to do what i'm told...) - don't go out too hard.

1.73k cool down for a total of 9.98k. noice.

EDIT - just got my 'early bird singlet' for the sydney running festival. i ordered a small but was worried it would be too small. it isn't. i would need GGG norks to fit in this baby. of course it fits just fine on the hips!! anyway - i look like a freak - and not just cause i'm sitting at my desk with it over my suit.

Horrie is correct. Consistent close together in time reps will make you a better judge of pace. 5-10secs in between each is what you should aim for. That wasn't rain this morning. I can still see the dust.

doesn't your mobil have a camera? A suit/singlet piccie would have been perfect ...

Hey, so what on earth happened to this painful ankle thingy? Has it disappeared altogether?

(btw - I want it to be formally noted that I made no mention or norks in this post)

Wear it in the race Ellie - I want to see for myself.

They'll all be 4.49s or quicker one day.

You did well to hold it together and recover to finish the session strongly. Don't worry, I also went out too hard on the first lap. It just feels so easy on the first lap. Just wish the last couple were as easy as the first.

LOL. Singlet with the suit is a great look.

Wow, your first Half. I'm so excited for you!!!!

Horrie is right. Then again, a 4:49 is so cool!!!

The singlet sounds like the Noosa t-shirt sizing. I got an extra small though it was more like a medium .... a medium size tent that is.
